Frustrated!

Frustrated!

I received an e-mail from a fan recently who asked me why I haven’t blogged my adventure recently. Well Eileen, I am frustrated!

I have shown the plan to about 15 people and no new enrollments! Eileen asked in her e-mail if I had given up because I hadn’t written in a while.  The funny part was I actually had a bit of writers block and that was why I didn’t write in a while; but back to being frustrated.   I spoke to people who were very interested and even set up second appointments or second looks at UBP (Business presentation meeting).  I had people who said “Yes, I want to do this”, and then they all disappeared!

I had people who wanted to buy product and when I called them, they disappeared as well.  I even had an MaCapital Sale that was in the works and because we didn’t take credit cards for it, I couldn’t close it right away. …and so on and so on! UGGGHHH!!!

Of Course, my next frustration was my down-line!

In my past experience I trained people that if you do 3 things you will be on the road to success. These three things do not guarantee your success, but if you don’t do the 3 things your failure is guaranteed.

These three things are; 1) make a goal statement, 2) Make a list of at least 25 people (try to make it 100) with phone numbers and,  3)have a party. I know they are similar to the BASIC 5 that Market America teaches but isn’t that the point.

Here they are again and explained…

1) Goal Statement —   It is clear that if you do not have goal statement or “Why” for this, or any business you cannot be successful. Write it out and read it everyday! This is so easy to do. I can’t understand why people don’t do this.

2) List of at least 25 —The list of names and numbers is so important. I tell people not to call anyone until the list is made. This is because you need to call the next person after someone says “No”. Often people will call someone they think will be great for the business and when they say “No” the calls stop there. This is why you need a list and need to call the people on it one by one.

3) Have a Party — The idea of a “Party” has been around since Avon and Tuperware. It really works!  It works for both a product demo and a business presentation. The party should be just that ; “A party”. It is a celebration not a SELL-Abrasion!  Invite people to share in your life. You have made a decision to be a new business owner. This is something to celebrate! Your true friends will want to celebrate with you. In fact most people love a good party with friends. If you are worried about what they will think, tell them to leave their wallets home!

Those are the 3 first steps to success.    The problem is, no one in my down-line has done all three.  UUUUUGGGGGHHHH!

This business is extremely frustrating; I heard there would be days when you are on top of the world and days you will want to quit! Well this is one of those days that I want to quit!

NO Eileen, and the rest of my fans,  I am not going to quit, but damn I am frustrated!

I have to remind myself that this is a 2-3 year plan not a 2-3 month plan.

So many people are looking for instant gratification and this business will not give that to you. Instead it will give you a very gratifying residual income for the rest of your life and that is what I want. I have specific plans for that income and they are in my goal statement.

My Goals again to remind myself!

Goals and Goal Statement

  • It is November 2013 and I am preparing for my biggest presentation to date.  I am in front of 500 people and telling the story of how I made it in Market America.
  • I am no longer employed by a nasty boss whose self worth is based on the destruction of others.
  • I have replaced my more than my income from my full time job and I am on track for a $250,000 year with Market America.
  • I have an incredible team below me who I help in anyway and in all ways that I can. We have become friends and peers and we enjoy time together as couples in interesting places such as Skiing in Denver, Kayaking in Vermont, Sail boating in Maine.
  • We have our primary house in Florida in West Palm Beach. We still live some of the time in Chalfont but we intend to make Florida our main house by the end of 2014.
  • We are enjoying a cruise per year along with a resort stay per year an exotic trip per year and several fun jaunts on our motorcycles to different places at least 5 x a year.
  • We spend about every other weekend on our sailboat for at least a few hours.  This is my sanctuary.  Just me, my wife and sometimes friends on the beautiful seas
  • Carol just got her BMW 5 series convertible and I am enjoying my oldie but goodie, Cadillac XLR-V
  • We live a good life and have fun.

  • By the way, I am reading this list at my presentation and the audience is cheering at the fact that I wrote it more than 2 years before it all happened!

I will not give up my dreams because of a frustrating week!

In my next blog I will let you know all of the things I have been doing to stay in the game.

I have attached a great video by Art Williams that is really helping me out of my funk! Because I am going to “DO IT”

Remember “Attitude” is in the Basic 5!

Enjoy and “DO IT”!

I may be beaten down a few times but I will see you at the top!

Market America Journey | What About Me?

What about me?

Suddenly, I am reminded of the old Joke;  How do you get to Carnegie hall?”

Answer; “Practice, Practice, Practice!”

I feel so bad for the 4 or 5 people that I first introduced, “The Plan” to.  This is because I barely knew what to do.  I am sure this has happened to you if you are already in Market America or another networking marketing company.

When I  first started showing the plan, I kinda muddled through it but made sure that I made a comment on each of the screens of the PowerPoint presentation.  I answered questions the best I could and hoped the prospect liked what I had to say.  Sometimes,  I asked for referrals and I always asked them to go to local meeting (UBP) to find out more information.

So why do I feel sorry for the first few people that I spoke to?  Simple; I wasn’t confident in myself or the concept of Market America —and it showed.

In my last entry I discussed the fact that I actually lost my full time job and I was glad I had  a “Plan B” in place.   It would have been nice if my Plan B had been up and running before that dreadful day, but at least I didn’t go in Market America with desperation.  I went in with aspiration instead!  I was truly inspired and ready to set the world on fire.

In my last entry I also told you that I was going to reach out and speak to some of the high earners and ask them what they did and how they did it.  What I really wanted to know are some of the things you are probably wondering yourself.  I wanted to know if what they did was special. Things like; Did they have a special advantage?;  Are they successful only  because they came in when it was new?; Did they have a special benefit because they knew JR personally?  — You know, all of the questions that make us think that we can’t really be the next Elizabeth Weber or Ben Ginder.  (Once again, the negative thinking is always the worst enemy on the path to success).

I first reached out to Jim Winkler. Jim is an amazing guy. Jim tells the story of how he was asked to transfer to Canada with his former company and didn’t want to go.  In my conversation with Jim, he told me about his success and how he had no special privileges.  In fact, he was just like you and me.  The difference for him was that he was 100% committed to being successful.

I asked Jim to be honest with me and asked his advice on if I should go back and find a job and do Market America part time.  Knowing that my financial situation was fine, he quickly answered and he said something like this; “Go all out with Market America.  You can always get a job later if it doesn’t work for you”.

That statement made so much sense to me.   Jim, if you are reading this, I have to really thank you for this simple but powerful sentence.  In fact,  in the 2 weeks since we have spoken, Market America has become my full time job!  I have been showing the plan consistently. Some times as much as 4 times a day.   I actually had to put aside time today to write this blog.  I blocked off two hours to write this.  I had to block the time because I have been so busy showing the plan to new people and my down-line’s people.

I also had the opportunity to speak to another brilliant Market  America distributor named Ben Ginder.  We sat one night over a drink and discussed how to really make this business work.  Ben is… well, Ben is a character.  Ben presented a UBP meeting that night and my guest described him as a brilliant “Hill Billie”.  Ben really gave me some great ideas and I put them to use right away.

So here it is folks. It is my turn and I am going to make it happen!

One of my prospects said it perfectly when I showed her the plan and asked ” Do you know anyone who can help me build my business?”

Her answer;  ”What about me?”

See you at the top!

Plan B — I can’t believe it happened to ME!

Plan B- I can’t believe it happened to ME!

I can’t believe it happened to ME! —- ME, the number one salesperson in the company.—- ME the one who had profits higher than anyone in the company for the past 5 years! —-ME, the one who was making money for the company and my family.—- ME who thought I was secure in my job. —-Yes ME, on Friday , was asked to sit down with HR to have them hand me a package and a pat on the back.

I am no longer employed!

They say when you grieve, you go through several stages;, not to bore you with those details, I will just say that I have been experiencing them all. I have to say shock was the weirdest one of all. I kinda floated out of the office, not really knowing what it all meant. So, after a weekend of brooding, I decided that I will never let myself be in a position like this again. I will always have my Plan B in place and working on it. —Luckily, I had already put some of that in motion.

I was lucky to have received a couple of months severance pay and since I have been following the advice in my book,  “If I won 25 Million Dollars in the Lottery” ,  I have been saving a portion of my income from each paycheck and have enough money, set aside to last about 6 months.

Now it is decision time!

Each time I listen to some of the recordings of the great people in network marketing and especially in Market America , I hear about a similar story to mine. Jim Winkler tells the story about how he was asked to uproot his family, with no guarantees that he will continue at the same income when his company moved their operations out of the country.

Paul Carlotta talks about his pain and how his business went bad and what he needed to do next. (By the way, the Paul Carlotta story is very inspirational. In fact, as I write this, it is playing on my desk. I guess I needed a good story to get my butt in gear!)

Katherine Mott tells the story about how she moved from the Philippines and tried some different jobs and businesses until her health went downhill. The rat-race was difficult for her and her husband. They left corporate America and switched to Market America. The stories go on and on and I want to be one of those stories!

So here is the situation. I am scared and worried. The facts are that we are ok financially, for awhile. That means I have some time. I realize not everyone is this fortunate when they are laid off. As I listened to the greats I realized they all had a story. I am chronicling mine. This is no bull, this is all fact and all in real time. I don’t know the outcome, but I do know that I control it.

My thoughts are; “Should I find another job?”, “Should I change careers?”, or “Should I just go all out in Market America?” I have heard from the “greats” that you can build this business into a six figure income within a year. Do I believe it?, honestly I am not sure yet. My goals are to be a director and make $250,000 within 3 years. On second thought, YES I do believe it can be done, I just have to make it happen!

Some of the best motivational speakers say that you need to be “all in” to make your dreams come true. Here is my plan, I am going to reach out to one of the top leaders in MA and just get a little more prospective on how it is done. I will call 5 people a day and show the plan 3 at least times a day.

I will ask God for his guidance and I will make sure that I understand failure is not a option.

Don’t let this fool you, I am still scared and worried, but I know that if I let it paralyze me into inaction then I am finished!

I look forward to your inspirational comments to help me along!

See you at the top!

Party!

Party!

In this business you must have a home kickoff party. The kickoff party helps you in so many ways.

It is obvious that you must get the word out to others that you are in business. It is also very motivational to have a party to celebrate your entrance into a new business. So this weekend was mine.

When I last left you all, I had a bad day. http://mastermindsjourney.com/?p=165 . On this day, 4 people cancelled on me and I was bummed. Chris, however, did show up and actually he appeared to have a great time. After the meeting we suggested he go to local training, with Kevin Buckmann. This was a training that was on the same day as my home kickoff party. He agreed and of course I accompanied him.

Kevin is a straight forward guy and very into the simplicity of systems and numbers. I really enjoyed this because I think the same way. Chris also enjoyed it as he is analytical. I could go on about the Kevin Buckmann seminar, but I want to focus on the party. I will say that it is definitely a seminar to go to if you are in Market America or any Network Marketing company. He dives into how build a successful organization. It is great information.

Now back to the party…

I set this date of March 5th awhile back. Rob, my sponsor wanted me to have it sooner, but with the holidays, the Miami conference and crazy weather, this was the best day. Now, I needed to get the word out about the party.

Here is the problem, I believe, most people have when trying to invite people to a kickoff party. I can just imagine the calls and invites going something like this. “We have a new business, come to our house for a meeting” or “We are having a party to tell you about our new business” or maybe they just tell people it is a party and then ambush them when they are there. Of the three, the last is probably the best but still not all that great of an idea. I took a different approach. I called it a “Retirement and Moving to West Palm Beach Party”. The name was taken right from my goal statement that is my driving force in this business. See this entry http://mastermindsjourney.com/?p=18 .

This was a great name because when I invited people to the party they asked questions. I would call and say “We are having a retirement and moving to West Palm Beach party on the 5th can you make it?” They would mostly ask a variation of the next question; “How are you doing that?” {GOTCHA!}. Then I would answer “We are going to tell you at the party, can you make it?” When people said that it was a bad day for them, they actually wanted me to tell them how I was doing it anyway. So I would make a private appointment with them.

Carol and I have a house just big enough for the two of us and two cats so having too many people would be difficult. We knew about 20 should be the limit. We invited our up-line Rob and our Director, Don Martin. We also invited two distributors that we have gotten to know, Terri and Mike. Terri asked if she could bring a guest and of course we agreed. We could have about a dozen more.

My goal was to seriously invite about 30 to reach the actual goal of 12. It has been my experience that a little less than ½ who say they will be there, actually show up.

The guests who attended included Rick, who do a webcast show with, http://moneychattoday.com , Scott, who I teach Sunday school with, and his wife, my good friend Tom, our good friends Susan and Paul, and Jack. Of course Chris also came right after the Kevin Buckmann seminar. Dave, my first enrollee was also there with his enrollee as well.

Carol and I set out a nice spread of food including meatball sandwiches and hot roast beef sandwiches. The food was about $250 total. Carol bought some new serving dishes and fancy plates and some other stuff that made the party atmosphere look great. We could have used paper plates or stuff we already had, but we needed some of that stuff anyway so I was glad she got it.

We started at about 7 and the guests enjoyed feasting on our spread. We asked everyone to gather around the television at about 8:15. I joked and said “Now for the tax write-off portion of the party” and everyone laughed. Before I introduced Don Martin to give the main portion of the presentation, I told my guests about what our goals in life were. I showed a PowerPoint slide show of what we wanted out of life. They included things like the West Palm Beach house, a sailboat, being able to travel etc. Everyone said it was a nice touch. (I believe you have more creditability when speak from the heart and that is what it was all about.)

Don was then introduced and he went into the meat of the presentation. I was looking over the guest to see if there was any interest and most people were glued to the screen and the presentation. Scott was the only really fidgety person. Now Scott would be the perfect person for this business. He is kind, trustworthy, outgoing, a great teacher and just a great person all around. He is someone I respect and frankly one of the hard calls to make because I do respect him and I didn’t want to offend him or make him angry that I was trying to get him “involved in something”.

Scott stood up in the middle of the presentation and headed toward the kitchen. I saw that he was holding his back and walked with him. I was getting ready for the “What the heck is this? attitude” but he looked at me and said “This is great stuff! Can we talk about this during the week? My back hurts too much to sit any longer.”

Scott had back surgery and suffers from a real bad back. Before he left, we discussed a time for me to go to his home and give the rest of the presentation. Pretty awesome response so far!

Don handed me the remote and had me finish the last 20 or so slides. Even though I was a bit green, it was great!

I have to tell you a funny thing that happened. Paul was falling asleep in his chair. I looked over and asked him if he was OK. He had a long week and was just tired. I asked Carol to make him a Mochatonix. Some of the distributors in the room laughed, but we made it and he drank it. He was wide awake in minutes.

By the time I was done, the conversation in the room was amazing. We had people signing up to be preferred customers; we had people asking about vitamins and what that Mochatonix was all about and how Paul was now wide awake, we had people wanting to know more.

I made the biggest mistake by not having product to sell. I could have sold OPC-3 and Multivitamins and Mochatonix. I had one package of Mochatonix that Jack asked me to sell him and I did. My recommendation to all having a party is to have some product to sell there.

Here is the interesting part of the story. I never expected to have this good of a reaction to this party. Not only was everyone in the room interested, but they all wanted product. I have to say that even with my enthusiasm about Market America, I was shocked to see this much enthusiasm with the guests. I will be following up with them and I will let you know how it goes!

I truly believe this is going to be what I expect of it!

See you at the top! (In West Palm Beach)

One of Those Days!

One of those days!

Did you ever have one of those days? You know, one of those days were nothing goes right.

It is only 9:30 am and the day is already just deteriorating . It all started when I woke up late. I wake up every morning at about 4:45 and go to the gym to start my day. I usually work out for about an hour and then take the long hour and a half drive to work. This morning I just didn’t get up, I didn’t work out and left a few minutes late for work.

The day just got worse.

On the way to work, I remembered that I hadn’t logged on to Pat-Live, (the Market America voice mail system) for about a week and decided this was a good time to do that.

33 messages— Ouch!

As many of you know, about a third of those don’t really apply to your area anyway, so I just deleted those. I had 3 prerecorded messages from JR (James Ridinger CEO of Market America), who was giving helpful training reminders to help your team and down-line. I was reminded of many of the things I have not been doing for my small team of JUST 2 people and I was disappointed in myself. Thinking, if I can’t do this for 2— How can I do it for 60?!

Usually, I just remind myself that this was good advice and try to change the behavior to make sure I don’t disappoint myself again. This morning, however, it is getting hard to move on, as the e-mails and phone calls start coming.

Last night, before I went to bed, I was so excited to know that I had 5 people going to tonight’s UBP meeting presentation. Howard, an attorney who I mentioned in my last blog, Ellen, who is a personal development coach and friend, Chris, who is in an energy MLM and wanted to find out more about what I am doing, another Howard, who had been to a basic 5 training last week and Scott who is a friend of this Howard. What a day it will be, at least that is what I thought!

Just a reminder that it is only 9:30 this morning and I already received an e-mail from Ellen, who said she can’t make it and a phone call from the first Howard who also said he can’t make it.

The other Howard appears to have entered the prospect protection plan. The prospect protection plan is a little joke that network marketers or salespeople make about a prospect who was really excited about what we had to say, and then they just disappear. They basically go into hiding. I believe this is what happened, because I have reached out to him the last 3 days and have not heard a word from him.

This guy went to a basic 5 and new distributor training. He was pumped when it was over, so what could possibly be keeping him from returning my phone call. I am doubtful he will be there tonight or his friend Scott.

So, from 5 people to 1 possible for tonight; I am so bummed.

UUUUGGGGHHHH!

Breath Larry, Breathe!

I now understand why the first step (attitude) of the Basic Five is so important. I listened to almost the entire MA MP3 player since I received it in my initial order just 2+ months ago. Luckily, yesterday I listened to the success stories portion. I listened while reps told the story of how they failed before they succeeded and how difficult this business can appear to be at times. Of course, each one of them became a success or they would not have been on that recording.

Right now, I am thinking of all of the people, who had a day like mine, and just quit. I have to say I am thinking about how much easier today would be if Market America was not in my life. No worries about people not showing up; no worries about the people who I forgot to properly train and no 33 messages on my Pat-Live system (and of course no blog of my awful day). I could even go home tonight and just watch television instead of going to the UBP meeting tonight with my possible guest.

So, what am I going to do?

I am going to make sure I show the plan to at least one person today!

I don’t care who it is or what they say!

If I have to– I will find a homeless person in a shelter, but I am going to show the plan. I am having an awful day, so who cares what happens! I am not dead and I didn’t get diagnosed with a terminal disease and no-one I know is hurting or dead!

I just got my ego bruised that’s all.

SO WHAT!!!

Yes, it sucks but quitting is not an option. My life in West Palm Beach and my speaking engagement in front of all of you is waiting in my future! (See my goals statement in a previous blog entry http://mastermindsjourney.com/?p=18) I just need to get through this day and many others to reach that future I expect to have!

I hope your day is better and I am looking forward to making MY day better as it goes on.

I will let you know how the rest of the day went and how my home- kick-off party, scheduled for this Saturday, went in the next entry.

…and no this blog did not make me feel better! My determination and belief in the plan GOD has for me, is what will get me through this day.

See you at the top; even if I have dust off some of the dirt from falling down a few times!

My Wife Said “This is your thing”

My Wife said “This is your thing”

I promised to tell you about my wife and her thoughts about my venture into Market America so here it is.

My wife, Carol, is probably the most supportive person I can imagine. I am so blessed to have her as my wife. She basically takes two routes in her support. The first is enthusiasm and anything she can do to help. The other is more of a passive support. She knows that if something is making me happy, and as long as it is not harmful, she encourages me to do it. She will however remind me that she is not interested by telling me “This is your thing”.

So here comes Market America. After I signed up, she reminded me again that, “this is your thing”. When I received my first order with my vitamins and my OPC-3, she was like, “that’s a lot of vitamins, i hope you can use them all”

Well, for a week, every day I took the Isotonix multivitamin and my OPC-3. I continually said “this is like no other vitamin I have ever used before”. Her response was “This is your thing”

About a week into taking the vitamins, she was standing over my shoulder watching me poor the water on the Isotonix vitamins and watched it bubble up. She was very curious and asked me what that was. I told her it was the vitamins, and I ask her to try them. She told me that vitamins never really did anything for her. So, I insisted she try these and let me know if she still feels the same. So I mixed her a batch of Isotonix Multi-vitamin, with some OPC-3 and Isotonix Vitamin D. I watched her drink it down and then she said “yummy, this taste good”.

It was about 5 minutes later, (funny because that is about how long it took me to realize it as well) she said, “Wow, I am awake. These are like no other vitamin I ever took!” — I have been making her a cocktail of vitamins every morning, ever since.

Remember when I was going to Miami?

She said “This is your thing”, and “Go and have a good time”.
Of course I went and it was awesome! My blog on the conference http://marketamericajourney.com/?p=81

When I came back, I asked her to look at the portal. She spent some time not really looking at it, but one day She called me up and said “Did you know you can buy anything on this site?” She found food and cruises and clothes and was amazed. I think she looks at it more than I do!

One Wednesday I asked her to go to a UBP meeting and she said “yes”. We sat there and Charlie Baer was the speaker. Carol was hysterical at Charlie’s dry sense of humor and learned all about BV and IBV.

I nudged her and asked, “Want to help me build this business?”
She said “This is your thing!”
I just smiled and was glad she was there beside me.

Here is the most interesting part of all. I get a call from Carol today. She was super excited on the phone and I asked her “what is going on?” She told me that she found the cat food our cats love on the MA portal. She told me it was the same price as the supermarket and then said “but we get cashback and IBV” “How cool is that”, she exclaimed! http://bit.ly/hVM98U

I love it when my wife and I are thinking the same way, but check this out! The other thing she told me, was that she was trying to recruit a friend into the business! She told me she was talking to someone and telling him about how we are going to retire in 3 years on $25,000 month income and he should talk to me about it.

We will be seeing him and his wife shortly and I will let you know how that goes!

Well Carol, thanks for letting me do “my thing” and I am looking forward to being the Larry and Carol Steinhouse “Director” Team, while we do “our thing” , together!

They say, “behind every good man is a good woman”
Mine is right next to me!

Just Show the Plan!

Just Show the Plan!

I remember a motivational seminar in which it was the first time I was introduced to the K.I.S.S formula. For those of you who never heard of it, it stands for Keep It Simple Stupid! I always laugh when I hear that, but I find it to be so appropriate in so many things in our daily life.

The key to success in any business is, as we have been told, to create a duplicable system that you can train others to do and have them train others to do and so on. If McDonalds told their cooks to make a hamburger as they saw fit, some would have ketchup, some mustard, and some no bun or the patties may be different sizes and tastes. McDonalds success is based on training and duplication. So that is the idea in Network Marketing and something I am dedicated to do in my Market America business.

I have developed two approaches; I use 15 of the UBP presentation slides as provided by my upline for most of my approaches. It is a simple process that I first show the web portal and the power of getting paid to shop. I register the prospect as a customer and then go into the presentation. The other is strictly for people in MLM or who have had experiences in MLM. I show a comparison of MLM to the binomial system and then I go to the beginning of the prior approach. Guess what? It works!

I am a big fan of Frank Keefer’s teaching so I also believe that I only want the people who I think can do this business, to join the business. That does not mean that I prejudged who I show the business to. It means I judge the prospect by reactions and amount of commitment I feel they will give the business before I suggest they find out more. I then invite them to a second look and judge them again.

As JR Ridinger suggests, “I am thinking like a Director level not like an entry level!” Let me take a moment to remind you that just 2 months ago I wrote “So, here it is in 5 days since my last blog, I spoke to one person, that’s it! Just one! I am so disappointed, but I know it is my own fault. I am truly a victim of inaction!” See the blog “ A Victim of Inaction” http://marketamericajourney.com/?p=24

I went from that to literally showing the plan to four people yesterday and a total of 7 this week so far. That does not include the two people who missed their appointments. I have shown the plan at least once a day since my last blog and I have been developing leads so fast that I still have not had time to go to my list and call from it. If you remember I am still employed full time and my travel to and from the office is 1 ½ hours each way. That means I have limited time to see people. I have to make the best of my time and I do.

I had a great use of my time yesterday. My four 4 appointments were back to back and I met each one in the food court of a local mall. I literally had people waiting for me at the next table for their appointment (It was kinda cool). This guy behind me was watching me and I can just imagine what he was thinking. I wanted to hand him my card but he was gone before I had the chance to speak to him.

Yesterday brought me one commitment to a second look. Howard committed to going next week and I will of course follow up with him to make sure he attends. 1 out of 4!

Now, there are two ways to look at that. First is “only one!” …or “Awesome I got one!” instead, I say, “Awesome I got one! Now I need to speak to 4 more before the next UBP and get another!”

This business is summed up with the KISS formula over and over again. Forget the fear and the negatives and just “Show the Plan!” Have a system and a script and practice it. The best way to practice it is in front of a real prospect. Don’t worry if you screw it up. The prospect doesn’t know you made a mistake and if you believe in the plan and your enthusiasm shows through, it won’t matter anyway.

It gets easier and easier as I show the plan. I promised my wife that we will have the lifestyle we deserve and I make sure I am in my business every day! This will make me the $25,000 per month I expect to make within 3 years.

Remember my goals?

Nothing is going to stop me!

I just realized that I promised you I was going to write about my wife and her opinion. I will write that in the next blog and release that blog tomorrow.

Time to go listen to another audio tape first!
I am so pumped!

I want to see you at the top with me; I hope I won’t be looking down at you!

When you are in, you are all in!

When you are in, you are all in!

As you know, this journal is all about my journey into the network marketing company called Market America.  It has been about 2 months now into the journey and I am starting to see some results.  If you have been reading (if not go back and read from beginning), then you know this has been an honest journal of my actions and feelings.  If you had read my personal blog then you also know that this is the year of proof and this Market America Journey is part of that proof.

Let’s recap a bit before I go on to explain a great week of prospecting.

I signed on to become a distributor of Market America Distributor in December.  Of course Christmas got in the way and then doubts and fears came next.   The Miami conference was next, and I was pumped!  This led me to a great week. And wow, what a week I had!  When I left off the last blog, I told you that I had several people to “show the plan” to.

So here are some of those stories:

First there was Marty on Monday night.  I know Marty from the real estate market. I used to work for an agency and we did a deal together.  Marty is involved with one of those electricity MLM’s and he had called me to get me in.  I have received many of these calls and I decided this is a great way to “fill the bean jar” with prospects.  I see them all!

Like Marty, many of them are not interested…     Yet!

These guys are going to be great prospects to follow up with in the future and I will continue to see them.  I believe they now understand the power of residual income and when the company they are with does not fill this promise, I will be there to rescue them.

Remember David?  He is the one who came with me to Miami.  He has joined as a distributor and is my first enrollment.  The cool part is that Dave already enrolled his first distributor as well.

A saw a few other people this week and one of them was an old friend who is going to get an early retirement package in about a year.  He is looking for something to do that will pay him a decent living in the future and we all know that Market America will fill this request.

I showed him the plan and he wants to know more.   He is located in North Jersey and I will be escorting him to a presentation in that area next week.

I showed the plan to 3 others and they had no interest.  In fact, one I even told “This isn’t for you.”

I am quickly realizing that you have to show the plan very, very often!   As I told the other guy, it isn’t for a lot of people.  The fact is that most people are skeptical. However, that isn’t what really holds them back.  They really don’t want to change their lives. They can’t imagine a better life under any circumstances.  They have no goals or desires and they have the void they created.

That means that any solution will not be the right solution for them. The 45 year promise of college, good job and retirement is all they know and all they can understand.  Too bad is does not work for most people.
If only people would realize their destiny is always in their hands!  I could go on and on about this, but that would be subject for another blog and of course it is in my book as well.  http://www.amazon.com/Won-Million-Dollars-Lottery-Happiness..

So that is what I will be doing; showing the plan over and over and over. This is the only way to be successful.  Yes, I will have times that I just had enough or I am frustrated or think I have called everyone, but I will keep going.

Believe it or not, I still have not called my list. My excuse: because I have seen so many people without calling.  I do have to say that next week I have no one to see.  Guess what?  It is my fault because I didn’t call the list yet.

I did however, schedule a home kickoff party. Actually I titled it, “Retirement and moving to West Palm Beach Party”.  If you read my goal statement in an earlier blog then you understand the point of the title.

I received some interesting comments on the party. Like “how did you do it”, or “we will miss you”.  I say come to the party and I will explain it all.   The party is March 5th and I am looking forward to it.

One of the suggestions of my up-line is to go to UBP’s (Business presentations) every week even if you aren’t bringing a guest.  The reality is that you truly learn more and more each time.  Last week someone stood up and gave a story that was truly worth being there for.  It was truly an inspirational story of how the business has helped them both financially and emotionally.  I have asked her for the speech and included at the end of this blog.

So far it is going well.  I have to remember that it is not an overnight process to build to my goal of $25,000 a month in residual income.  It will take time, patience and WORK!  It is true that sometimes I think “is this really going to work?”  The answer is always, “I am going to make it work!”  This is the only answer!

I recently wrote a personal blog on the subject of change and it is appropriate to reference it. You may want to take a look http://larrysteinhouse.wordpress.com/2011/02/17/change-is-instant/

I will mention my wife and what she has told me about this so far in the next entry.

Looking forward to next time!

Thanks for reading!

Here is the story that was read at the meeting last week.  See if you can hold back your tears…

Thank you Virginia Consenza for sharing

I have never been the kind of person that likes being up in front of a room full of people, but I wanted to tell my story to all of you that might have doubts about becoming part of our MA family and let you know how important it is to have a plan B for yourself and for your family.

I have worked for my current employer for 13 years.  This is a family business a mom and pop shop.  We are not just a number at this company.  We all know the boss and their families and attend each others personal functions and hang out together outside of work.  I have worked very closely with my boss, babysat his children and have grown close to his wife and entire family.

I joined MA in July 2010 to create residual income for my family. I wanted to create a plan B, just in case something ever happened to my job.  I always felt the only reason I would need a plan B is if they were shutting down.

I hesitated about going to the MA International Conference for 4 reasons.

1. Cost

2. Leaving my little ones behind.

3. Fear of flying.

4. The false sense of security at my job.

I am so glad I made the decision to attend the conference it was amazing and just what I needed.

From the moment I stepped into the arena and I saw and heard all the excitement I knew I made the right decision to be there. I absolutely enjoyed it and I learned a lot.

I got home on Sunday at 1am.  I was exhausted.  My husband let me sleep late on Sunday as he took care of my little ones.  After I had gotten up and played with my girls a little bit he said to my daughters.  I have to talk to mommy now.  By the look on his face I knew something was very wrong.

Now for those of you that know me, know that Danny and I work together at the same company for the same family.  One of the owners of the company, our closest boss told him on Tuesday, the day before I was leaving for conference, that they will be laying me off because they are already overstaffed.  At that moment I went numb, all I could think was “oh my god” how are we going to pay our bills.  I had so many emotions going through me at the moment, but the most important thing I realized was how much my husband truly loves and supports me.  He carried that burden and stress alone since Tuesday for 6 days that we were going to be losing ½ our income, just so I could leave for Miami with a clear head and enjoy the conference to the fullest.  He knew if he had told me before my trip, Miami would have been very different for me.

I then asked my daughter if she would be happy if mommy was home with her every day and when her eyes lit up, she said yes and then hugged me, I knew this was meant to be.

I want to thank Dr. Meena from the bottom of my heart for being such a pain in my behind for over a year in getting me to the meetings.   I will never forget and I know Dr. Meena will never forgot how I acted at my first meeting, I honestly thought this was some kind of cult and everyone sitting in the room was an actor.  I could not wrap my mind around this, it was too good to be true.

I now realize being laid off was the best thing that could have happened to me.  It was the motivation I needed.  I would have never left my job and the security of a paycheck on the table.  I needed to be pushed into this head first in order to see exactly what I had in my hands, “financial freedom”.

I really didn’t have a goal when I started MA, but I do now.  My goal is to create the income I was making at my current job in one year with MA and with the help and support of all my wonderful partners, Pat and Penny, Diane, Dr, Meena and Matt and those of you who have no financial gain from helping me succeed,  I know I will do it.

I have a message to all of you who are guest here tonight, don’t hesitate in becoming part of our MA family.  The minimal amount of money it will cost you to join is nothing compared to what it will cost you emotionally and financially if you lose your job, unexpectedly and don’t have a plan B.

Miami Conference!

Miami Conference!

I just came back from the Miami Market America Conference and it is time to blog about the next chapter of my Market America Journey.

First of all the conference was so amazing that is was hard to not blog about it every day, but pumping up the company is not what this blog is about, it is about my Journey.

So here goes;

A few days before the conference I had a miserable cold.  My head was all stuffed up and my throat hurt.  Of course now I had another excuse not to call people for those for few days.  Actually, it was OK because I was going to the conference. So what the heck I would learn a lot more to talk to people about anyway and calling them could wait a few days (OK OK I know, that was also an excuse).

You should also know that, 2 days before I left, my full time job got really busy. Not to complicate this blog with my full time job, let’s just say I received what would be considered a big order.   Of course this also started to play on my mind.  Here came my negative thinking again. Thoughts like; “What a terrible time to go away”, “I make enough money, why waste my time with MA” or “ What if I get fired, because my boss finds out that I am at MA instead of work!”, Maybe I should just not go to the conference and not make any waves at work”

NOT!!!

Wednesday Morning in the middle of that crazy ice and snow storm, I kissed my wife goodbye and drove to the airport to fly to Miami.

I started seeing familiar faces at the airports and said Hi to people I remembered seeing at meetings.  Dave (remember Dave from the last blog), was coming in later that evening and I left him a key at the desk while my up-line, the people I already consider friends, and I went to diner.   We all talk and really had a great time.  We made our plans to meet up tomorrow and I went back to the hotel to sleep.

The next morning was incredible. I have been to motivational seminars before but truly I have never seen anything like this.  I expected a lot of people there and I would guess at least 15,000 filled the American Airlines Arena in Miami.  It was a first class production with amazing visuals and an incredible stage presentation.  The conference began and some of the topics were new products, other topics were the Shop.com acquisition and what it means to the company and the distributors.

Some of the surprises were lessons in social media and social media selling.  Some of you, who know me personally, know that I have been using social media for a while now to get myself known as an author. (Plug time) my book, “If I won 25 Million Dollars in the Lottery” is mostly sold by social media.   I also have a webcast show called Money Chat Today that is also gets most of its traffic from social media www.moneychattoday.com . So this section at the conference was of great interest to me.  They talked about Twitter and Facebook and truly that portion of the conference alone would be worth the trip and $200 ticket price for many of the people I know in that industry.  This was just the first day!

I am not going to spew out all I learned at the conference but wow, it was a lot!  The motivation factor was off the charts.

Next, I have to tell you about a heavy duty MLM friend of mine named Alan.  Alan was actually the creator of an MLM that failed.  It was the one I talked about in an earlier blog.  Alan is truly a MLM expert.  He is actually hired as a consultant to design MLM comp plans. He is also looking for a new place to be, since the failure of his MLM.  Anyway, I convinced Alan to show up at the conference ( by the way I am pretty impressed with myself that I actually had two guests at the conference when I only signed up as a distributor 6 weeks ago).  Alan showed up for one day but he was as impressed as I was.

Alan and I went to dinner that night and Alan couldn’t wait to punch holes in the comp plan. Rob, my sponsor and Don Martin were there as well.  Alan was the one who taught me everything I know about the industry.   He started asking questions and saying “But…But…, But…”; —each time we were able to answer his questions and help him understand the comp plan.

I really thought that Alan was going to be a real downer; I even had my other guest, Dave there.  That could have been disastrous!   At the end of our discussion Alan, the MLM expert, said “This is a great comp Plan, one of the best I have ever seen”!  Now, that is a powerful endorsement.

The conference went on and JR (James Ridinger) came on stage as the last speaker.  This guy can only be described as crazy, motivational, insane, brilliant, spirited, passionate, and many other adjectives that I really can think of now.  The presentation he gave was truly masterful AND A MUST SEE!

One of the themes of the conference was get tickets for the next events.  I like many others had to wrestle with this for a while.  Thoughts like “Oh, they just want to sell you tickets”, “This is how they make the money”, or “ If I buy extra tickets I will be stuck with them” . (Negative thinking is so destructive, isn’t it?!)  Well here is my new thought; I don’t care if someone gets in the business or not, this seminar was worth 20 times more than the price of the ticket just for the  motivation and knowledge that can be applied to anything else someone is doing or wants to do to make their life better.

My advice to those reading this who fall into any of these categories; A Market America Distributor, someone thinking about Market America as an option, someone with no interest at all in Market America and finally anyone who realizes that there is a much better way to spend time then watching television, is BUY A TICKET!

One more thing before I go, I have an appointment tonight, tomorrow night, Wednesday night and Thursday night this week to show the plan!

Good luck on your journey and I will tell you more next week.

See you at the top!

Now I get it!

Now I get it!

The learning curve for all of us is different.  Some of us get our ‘eureka” moment right away and others may need to wait awhile before they get theirs.  I got a “eureka” moment this week.  I also realize that I will probably have several more “eureka” moments in the coming weeks and months as I get further into this business.  I think that admission is probably a “eureka” moment in itself, but let me tell about this week in my Market America Journey.

In my last entry, I told you that I did  “Nothing, Nada, Zippo” to foster my business.  I wrote that blog on the Thursday of last week.  I called my sponsor, Rob and asked him if we could get together for a few hours and go over some things with the business.  We agreed on Saturday at 1.  I now had two more days of excuses to not do anything. Of course that is exactly what I did for those 2 days, nothing!

Saturday came and I was feeling the pressure. I knew Rob had put aside the time for me but I was trying to weasel out of it.  I had thoughts like; “What if he really helps me and I fail anyway”, “What if I disappoint him or waste his time”, and so on.  That nasty fear was there again!

Well with much trepidation, I drove to his house at about 2:30. Yes, the appointment was originally for 1, but he was gracious to let me change it.  We spent awhile on the Market America Web Portal.  He showed me where to find the training material, how to order goods from my portal and gave me a general overview of the site and company.  After about an hour, I felt more and more comfortable with the web portal.

I did realize that it is probably impossible to know everything on that portal, but I was able to understand the basics of the navigation and that made me much more comfortable.  As suggested, I made the portal my home page and I look at it every time I open my browser.

It was about now that I was feeling better about the business and I was pretty relaxed. Then Rob asked, “Do you have your list?” (He was referring to my list of people that I should be introducing the business to), I answered “Yes” and he asked to see it.

He asked if there was anyone in particular that I should call right away and said I answered “none more than another”. Then he handed me back the list and said “start calling”.  I knew right away that he meant right now! So, I picked up my phone and started calling people.  I called 3 people and made 2 appointments.  Just like that.  No worries no problem just a simple one liner “hey let’s get together, I have something new I want to run by you”.   They didn’t hesitate, they didn’t ask “What is it?” they just said, “When and where?”  It was simple and easy!

The first appointment cancelled because something came up.  The second appointment was with a realtor friend named Al. My sponsor, Rob and I met with him.  Al was very polite but it was clear this was not the right timing for Al.   I of course thanked him for his time and asked him for names of people I could contact.  He gave me 4 names.

The next day, something really interesting happened.  I get a call from someone I met a long time ago.  His name was Dave. He complimented me on being a go-getter and asked me if I was making any money with energy deregulation yet.  At this time, there are many new MLM’s that are into the energy deregulation and I am sure you have gotten these calls also.

I immediately told him that I was impressed that he called me (Hey, this guy is doing what it takes to be successful).  We talked awhile and I then I told him that I looked at that option but I found something better.  Of course, he was curious and asked me what it was.  I said “let’s meet and I can tell you more”.  I set up an appointment with him to meet me at the hotel about an hour before a leading distributor and trainer, Keith Doyle, was presenting a Basic 5 training.  I talked about the Basic 5 in an earlier blog and I will tell you about this great presentation in a moment.

Dave was my first solo introduction.  I was a bit nervous but, I had reviewed the slides and was pretty confident that I could do it.  As I went through it, I found it pretty easy and sure enough, I realized I still needed practice.  Dave however, was at the end of his seat the whole time.  He appeared very interested.  I thought that I may be able to persuade him to come into the training meeting with Keith Doyle, and I even bought him a ticket before he arrived.   He agreed to come in and that was when my “Eureka” Moment started to bubble up inside me.

Keith Doyle Is an amazing presenter.  He talks like a guy from the city with a no-nonsense attitude, but he is incredibly warm. When you are around him you instantly like him and know that you can trust him.  Keith was talking about how to approach people and talk to them about the business.  He gave real life examples and was poking fun at some the ways many of us just blurt out things when we are new in the business.  I have to say that if you are reading this and are a distributor, you really want to see a Keith Doyle presentation. It will be both entertaining and educational.

Dave was sitting next to me in the back of the room and listening intently.  He was really getting into it.  Keith ended his presentation and reminded everyone about the Miami conference next week.  He told us all to go, even guests like Dave.   I turned to Dave and asked “Are you going?”  He answered “I would love to but…”

We talked for a few minutes and we even talked to Keith afterward.  Keith said something like “If you really want it, let’s make it happen” Dave wanted to go and guess what, we made it happen!  Right there, the day Dave was introduced to the business; he decided he was going to the Miami conference.  He isn’t even a distributor and he is going to the conference.

EUREKA!

This business must be something incredible if a guy like Dave, a business owner and a guy like me, an entrepreneur, decided to put everything on hold for 4 days and go to a conference.  I thought about how many Dave’s I haven’t called or even met yet. Dave isn’t even in the business yet and I can’t wait to get Dave started.  I am so excited for him.  This is what this business is really about; it is about a change for someone; it is about helping people see a new dream and a new possibility of a new future.   It is for the enjoyment of knowing you can help someone do something different to make a difference.

I can’t wait for Miami and I can’t wait to start introducing this to anyone and everyone I can!

I will tell you about Miami in next week’s blog.

By the way feel free to look at the business here.  http://www.marketamerica.com/masterminds
